Response regarding Safer Street

I refer to your article in the February paper which shows that in various parts of the UK, people are having mobility issues when council officers fail to take appropriate actions to stop problems which adversely affect elderly and disabled people.

We have repeatedly written to Redbridge Council listing the particular issues which concern those who are blind or have eyesight problems.

Problems which we have raised include obstructions to paths, bicycles, motorbikes and cars being driven and ridden along pedestrian paths, including bicycles ridden within the cemetery itself!

Problems which could cause sight loss, eye injury or damage include overgrown vegetation, and dumped rubbish overhanging and on pedestrian paths at children’s and wheel chair using adults’ eye levels.

These and other problems for blind and poorly sighted people should be taken up by the Council.
