This week in History

Every week we go back to re-visit some of the significant happenings that took place in living memory; just about, for some of us.

To remind ourselves of how life has changed and how some things stay the same it is fascinating to note what made the news this week, starting 16th February in years past.

Some of the events that seemed momentous at the time have now been absorbed into everyday life.

fox hunting1959   Fidel Castro    is sworn in as Cuban Premier

1972   The Miners Strike     causes homes and businesses to be without electricity

1986   Space Station Mir    is launched by the Soviets

1996   Bus bomb blast     kills 3 in London

2005   The Hunting Ban    comes into force making it illegal to hunt with dogs.
