1944 Airborne Invasion of Holland begins as British, American and Polish troops descend behind enemy lines.

1964  The Sun Newspaper is born

1967  The Queen Elizabeth 2  is launched the new Cunard cruise liner at Clydebank

1985 ryder cup1970  Jimi Hendrix  dies after collapsing at a party in London

1972  Expelled Ugandans arrive in the UK after fleeing persecution by the country’s military dictatorship.

1985  Ryder cup victory for Europe over USA under Tony Jacklin’s leadership for the first time in 28 years
