Volunteering locally

As a new reader of your lively publication, I’m delighted to learn how my fellow over-50s use the extra time retirement affords to indulge in all sorts of daredevil pursuits – like skydiving, wing-walking, etc. So much so that I almost hesitate to mention the purpose of my letter, i.e. to try and recruit new members for Friends of the Shuttle, a voluntary group which, as the name suggest, seeks to maintain the beauty and character of the River Shuttle in Bexley, south-east London.

We also, since last year, have taken over responsibility for restoring the Old English Garden in Danson Park, which the Council had planned to grass over.

So, if any of your good readers have time to spare on Thursdays, between 10am and 1pm, we’d be delighted to welcome you to our team.

As well as enjoying the garden’s clean, fresh air, you’ll be guaranteed: a) the satisfaction of performing an important environmental task, b) great camaraderie, and c) last but not least, tea and biscuits at the conclusion of each session!
