A letter from Mrs B. Quartly – TV Licences

Anyone living outside London knows that the local councils have to live within their means and I think that the BBC should do the same. We see public toilets closing, few police on the streets, aged partners having to look after relatives with dementia because there is no funding. The elderly have bus passes, but of what use is that when there are no buses?

For so many lonely people the TV is a godsend. There must be many people like myself who do not have a private pension and who stayed at home and raised our family – and at a time when there was no family allowance for a first child.

The BBC say that without the current funding they will have to close some channels. So be it I say!
