My five year old granddaughter got an iPad for Christmas.

I was horrified when I learnt this as I don’t have one and have heard all sorts of bad things about damaging their eyesight and being able to see unsuitable things on line.

However when she showed me how she uses it to read stories and watch films and play games I was fascinated.  She uses it just as I would a book or newspaper and a pencil and paper.  She drew pictures on it and looked at special apps for children her age.  Then she let her 2 year old sister have a go.  Apart from it being abandoned on the floor when the little one got bored and it being in danger of stepped on, she used it as she would any other toy.

I think that I am more scared of the technology as I do not understand it but my grandchildren use these devices so easily and of course they have been born into this cyber world.

I am sure my grandmother was horrified at how often we watching the television when we were growing up.
