Triumph history

I looked with interest at the Triumph TR4, in April’s issue. It was the car belonging to Mr Rodney Kessell. The registration 4158 EZ is, as myself, originally from County Antrim, Northern Ireland. If the car was originally purchased and registered in Northern Ireland, as the registration is of Northern Irish descent. If so it was probably purchased from Clarence engineering works, Belfast, who were the Triumph Dealers for the north of Ireland.

The company eventually closed in the late 70s / early 80s. Triumph were taken over by the main Jaguar Rover dealer who ran a large franchise. I was an apprentice mechanic in the early 70s and remember Clarence engineering motor works. I would be interested to know of 4158 EZ’s first owner.

Thanks for a nice read of your paper.
