Spring me sunshine

Spring me sunshine

We don’t want to jinx it – but it certainly looks, and feels, like spring!

Many parts of the UK have been deluged with heavy rain causing horrendous flooding in certain areas. But although wet, it has been mild and, as these fantastic pictures show, nature has responded.

Forecasters are predicting the warmer weather will be in marked contrast to what we saw last winter / early spring, when freezing temperatures gripped the UK until mid-April.

Wild flowers have already burst into vivid colour as spring arrives in its full glory, delivering much-needed respite to those feeling a little damp around the gills. Temperatures will be above average for March, with many places already in double figures.

The average temperature for February in England is usually a breezy 6°C, but much milder weather, certainly into double figures, has already been seen across the country.

And it looks set to continue after experts predict a month of warm weather, with plenty of sunny spells in March, is on the horizon, although they warned it might be too soon to put the brolly away just yet.

Jonathan Powell, forecaster for Vantage Weather Services, said: “By the middle of March we could be looking at highs in the low-60s. A definite shift in the weather is on the way.

“After the crossover into spring it is a very pleasant picture.

“It will be much drier than of late, and it is going to stay warm through the month – a very spring-like picture indeed.”

The Met Office’s three-month contingency planner said temperatures are likely to stay above-average until April.
