Double Commonwealth Games gold medallist Dave Moorcroft, teamed up with fitness charity Silverfit to launch Silver Tuesdays at Paddington Rec with a Walking Football session.
Walking Football will be one of 4 sports available at Silver Tuesdays, a weekly fitness group for people aged 45+.
Silverfit is a volunteer led charity that runs throughout London’s boroughs, their weekly Silver Tuesdays encourage people over 45 to get active and meet new friends.
61-year-old, former 5000m world record holder, Dave Moorcroft commented, “I am looking forward to the session on Tuesday. I’m over 45 myself and with a permanent knee injury find it difficult to run for long periods of time. Walking Football is a great chance to play sport, have fun and meet new people.”
Dave Moorcroft is also Director of Sport at Join In www.joininuk.org, a charity that puts more volunteers into community sport. “Silverfit is a great example of volunteers helping participants join in and get active. Volunteers are at the heart of community sport and essential to sports groups and clubs such as Silverfit.”
Watching that team spirit return to those who thought their football days were over is great.
There are even Leagues forming now, so Silverfit is planning to include that option for an hour in their latest Silver Tuesday programme at Paddington Rec.”
