Post your selfie with an older person to mark Older People’s Day!

Let’s value and recognise the lifetime contribution that older people make to society across the world and change the current dated image of ageing, as our legacy of success for 2014 Older People’s Day.

Most of us will live a good life and we will age well. The older people we see so often portrayed as frail and old in advertising and media.

Would you like to be considered as no more than an older person in a chair? That’s what will happen if we let these images go unchanged.

So come on, we’re the generation stated to live longer, to work longer, to contribute longer. Let’s take that model of older age we see in photos and adverts and rip it up.

Let’s show the positive images of ageing and celebrate all that older people contribute to society, with a fantastic range of pictures and images taken across the nation on Older People’s Day October 1st.

And if anyone is able to get a selfie with Prince Philip or HM The Queen or the oldest marathon runner or the oldest worker …don’t forget to add the hashtag #olderpeoplesday …go on …make us smile …take a selfie with someone older than you…and make that negative image a positive. Today!

Numerous organisations are working together to coordinate a national programme of activities today as part of this campaign co-ordinated by Age Action Alliance.
