Phone scammers have a new trick

As many people now know, scammers phone people up pretending to be their bank, to tell them that their bank account is under attack by scammers & to give them your personal account details over the phone so they can put it into a safer account.

Sometimes they suggest you call your bank, but they stay on the line so the line doesn’t clear, & then they pretend to be the bank again. They then steal your money. The new thing I’ve just seen on BBC1’s “Rip off Britain” is that these scammers can now actually use the correct phone number of your bank or other trusted body or friend, so it looks genuine when you look at your phone display.  These fake ‘mimic’ numbers are now easily available.
