I couldn’t agree more

Oh how I found myself agreeing with several of the writers on January’s letter page!

Texters do indeed leave their brains in the out box when they are on their mobiles. I have often had to dodge one and, like your correspondent, have seen them walk out into the road oblivious to all around them. You should hear my husband on the subject of poor lighting on vehicles and bikes. He could outdo Victor Meldrew!

Cold calling is the bane of modern life. My ninety year old friend frequently gets them when I am visiting her. Offers to help with computers, accidents and car insurance are not uncommon.

As she doesn’t have the first or last and is housebound she has learnt to put the phone down swiftly.

I have been deaf almost all of my life and until recently found the digital aid with its facility for the loop a boon. Unfortunately following a cancer in the ear that had any hearing I am now totally deaf and have to rely on a different type of aid and am very grateful for the miracle of modern medicine and technology which has allowed me to live a normal life.

The writers advising folk on how to avoid A&E and their local surgery are very apposite. I plan to go to the library website to add my name to any petitions. As a long time ago trained librarian I have a vested interest!
