There’s no doubt that, for many people, the merest glimpse of the blue, shimmering sea can lift the spirits: Even a stormy, crashing ocean can be invigorating.
So in spring last summer, it was fascinating to learn that new research has succeeded in pinpointing why it is that just the sight of the sea can rejuvenate us.
We already knew the sound of waves affects the brain’s own wave patterns – lulling it into a state of relaxation: We knew too that positive ions in the sea air increase our ability to absorb oxygen; that they also balance levels of seratonin – to lift our mood.
But the study from Michigan State University concludes we only have to take a look at the sea to feel calmer, happier and more relaxed. Assistant professor Amber Pearson calls it the effect of ‘blue space’ and it’s the first time anyone has found a link between visibility of the sea and health.
So, if you’re planning to downsize or retire, to reinvigorate your life or re-energise the way you live, the seaside is the place to go.
To find your blue space this spring, you don’t have to live in a remote light house. You can base yourself in the heart of a thriving and elegant coastal community and still get your regular life enhancing glimpse of the beautiful ocean.
Award-winning Redrow Homes has created Lymington Shores: A collection of beautifully finished, luxurious one and two bedroom apartments, penthouses and duplexes set next to Lymington Marina. It has also launched a selection of exclusive waterfront three and five bedroom Villas, with high specification throughout, and many benefitting from views of the River Lymington.
The design of all the Lymington Shores homes has been cleverly engineered to take advantage of the extraordinary views – and bring the outside in.
Sales and Marketing Director of Redrow Homes (Southern Counties), Mark Vanson says the homes offer all the benefits of seaside living but with the luxury of great design, superb finish and exceptional specification: And although they’re tranquil, they’re far from remote:
“Lymington is one of the UK’s favourite marina towns. A few years ago it was awarded ‘best coastal town in Britain’ – and with good reason.
“There is a thriving high street with famous chain names and many independent boutique shops: There are restaurants, cafes and shops. The town has many, many Georgian and Victorian buildings – with narrow cobbled streets winding their way round the quay. But if you should want to go further afield, it is just two hours train journey to London.”
The apartments at Lymington Shores all have terraces or patios so you can enjoy the fresh sea air and the beautiful views. The design combines the kitchen and living/dining room to create a modern, open and airy living space which allows the light to flood in. The apartments also benefit from Siemens integrated appliances, under counter wine coolers and designer worktops.
Many of the bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms and the kitchens are all fitted with Nolte designer interiors.
The villas have been equipped with the very latest fittings: an integrated coffee machine, wine cooler and instant water boiling tap for example. They have their own utility room and large garage.
Prices for a one bedroom apartment at Lymington Shores start at £299,950. Prices for a three bedroom villa begin at £1,495,000.
