Reading the letter from Hunter Willis about provision of suitable smaller properties for us “elderly” really stuck a cord, given that we are moving to a smaller property in readiness for our later years.
The real rub for me is not the locality but the relative price we are being forced to pay. Our current property has 4 beds and therefore ideal for the young family buyers, and what a bargain they are getting in comparison.
In total I am selling 11 rooms and buying 6 on a plot of similar or possibly smaller size plus losing a considerable amount of garage space. The net drawdown on my property sale? Around £3500 per room. Hardly worth making all those sacrifices over these past years paying the mortgage and maintenance etc. And don’t get me started earnings from our modest savings!
