Come and join us

Come and join us

I read your newspaper for the first time this week, not having seen it before.  Your article on overcoming loneliness made me think.

I am a Bowls Coach at my local indoor club and, along with two other Coaches, we run an on-going course for beginners.  This is held one afternoon a week from October to Easter when two hours tuition costs only £2.

The participants come when they can as it is not a set course like an evening class.  This year we have had a average attendance of 20 and they all thoroughly enjoy themselves.

They often get together between sessions, book a rink and play.  This must be happening all over the country, try your local indoor club or ask the Sport Development department of your local Council.

Another way of making friends is to join your local U3A, run by the members for the members these provide a host of interest groups and often monthly general meetings.

Your nearest can be found by visiting www.U3A.org.uk and then following the links.  If you don’t own a computer I’m sure your local library would be able to help.

Both of the above are very friendly groups here and I am sure the same applies elsewhere.
