World Cancer Day – Guests of exceptional cancer hotel share stories

Marking World Cancer Day 2017, those with cancer along with friends and family have shared their experiences of The Grove Hotel in Bournemouth.

World Cancer Day takes place every year on the 4th February and aims to spread awareness and support for those battling the disease. Exclusively catering for cancer suffers, their family and carers, The Grove Hotel is the first not-for-profit establishment of its kind. Run by the charity Macmillan Caring Locally, The Grove has created countless memories by offering guests a beautiful holiday retreat.

Ahead of World Cancer Day, guests of the hotel have shared their stories of how the special hotel has enabled them to enjoy quality time, spent with friends and family.

Speaking of her experience on TripAdvisor, Sandy said:

“This hotel is extra special for anyone suffering or recovering from cancer. The staff are so welcoming and caring. They make time for each individual and you have the reassurance of nurse availability should you need it. I spent a week here after completing my treatment and feel re-energised and ready to move forwards with my life.”

The Grove guestsNikki, another guest of The Grove, said:

“Me and my mum came to stay for 2 nights. Our room was beautiful and being in a disability friendly room meant my mum was just as comfortable as she is at home. Mum also gained the confidence to go out on a mobility scooter to make the most of the seafront nearby. On the 2 nights we stayed, there was entertainment which is very relaxed and a nice chance to socialise. Two further visits have now been booked and mum is looking forward to going back to The Grove.”

Brenden Howard, Hotel Manager at The Grove Hotel, comments:

“It’s always nice to hear that whilst experiencing cancer our guests can have a much needed and relaxed holiday. Sharing some of their lovely memories on World Cancer Day is a great way to show everyone that despite being diagnosed with cancer, people can find enjoyment in life.”

Located on Bournemouth East Cliff, The Grove has won numerous awards in the last year. These include a Silver in the Best Small Hotel category at The Dorset Tourism Awards, The Hotels Combined ‘Stellar Stays Property Award’ for outstanding levels of customer service and satisfaction, a Bournemouth in Bloom 2016 Silver Gilt Award and a Five Star TripAdvisor Rating. They are also a current finalist in the South West Tourism Awards in the best Small Hotel category.
