1952: King George VI is laid to rest – King George is buried at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle after a solemn procession through London.
1979: China invades Vietnam – China sends hundreds of troops into Vietnam after weeks of tension and a military build-up along the border.
1986: Soviets launch space station Mir – The Soviets open a new phase in space exploration with the launch of the world’s biggest space station, Mir.
