Stitching Out Stigma is a project designed to confront and change the perception of mental health. We’re asking people to stitch a 10×10” square illustrating their experiences, interpretations or ideas of mental health. Each square will be individual – using words, images, embellishments – and you don’t need direct knowledge of mental health to participate.
The squares will then be joined together to form displays for the Mental Health Foundation’s Mental Health Week in May 2015, and will then be housed in the new mental health unit in Wales. So far the project has spread further than we had ever imagined – we currently have members from the USA, Australia and Europe, all hoping to challenge the way mental health issues are thought of.
