Pensioners’ Discount Days in supermarkets

Pensioners’ Discount Days in supermarkets

I am now classed as a pensioner and although I am one of the lucky ones who is not living on the breadline I do have to be careful where my money goes.  I take advantage of all the offers available, such as concessions at the cinema and theatre and transport discounts.

We have a Diamond card for B&Q on Wednesday when you will see the stores packed with cost conscious DIYers.  And this begs the question, why don’t the supermarkets have a pensioners’ discount day?

Not having to go to work means we are able to shop on any day of the week and in fact a recent survey highlighted the fact that one of the main benefits of being retired is that we do not have to shop at the weekend when it is busiest.

So why have the big supermarkets not cottoned on to the fact that more older people would like to have a special day when they can made welcome in the superstore and maybe get more help with advice, packing and assistance and maybe a discount into the bargain.

Friends living in Spain tell me that Carrefour, the second biggest supermarket chain in the world gives regular shoppers over 65 years old, a discount card, which means they get a further 10% off all food stuffs.  A great help in reducing food bills,

So come on Tesco, Sainsbury’s et al; do something for pensioners, buy our loyalty with some discount and help us spend our hard-earned pensions in your shop.
