A letter from Irene Jones – Sibling rivalry

On reading the article about sibling rivalry, I thought about my family, we grew up in a two up two down house – no bathroom or kitchen and we had just one cold water tap. Beside our parents there were seven of us children. It was crowded and there was not much space between beds in the two bedrooms. We looked out for each other and had usual kid’s arguments and niggles at each other, but we were never rivals.

We are towards the end of our lives now, my oldest brother is 88. We phone each other regularly and know we are always there for each other. We genuinely love each other.
