I am a friend of Kingsbridge Library here in Devon and will be taking my grandchildren there on Libraries Day on Saturday. They are twins, 9 years old, and just love to read.
I thought you may be interested to know a story about libraries in the 1950s! I was married at 20 and moved to a flat in North London where I tried to join the local library.
Would you believe that I had to get my husband’s written permission that he would be responsible for my library book care as I was under age? He was 24 at the time. I was then able to join. Incredible isn’t it!
