Kitchener coin

Why put Lord Kitchener on the new £2 coin – what right had he to ‘want’ men for war?

His pointing finger was a threat not an invitation – join up or be conscripted. Fight or be shot at dawn. In fact most men had to be conscripted.

Harry Patch, the last fighting Tommy described it as ‘legalised mass murder’. Over 750,000 were killed including my grandfather and great uncle. It was supposed to be ‘the war to end wars’ but it simply led to another world war. If we must have a coin let us remember all who suffered in war. And try to stop wars in future.
