Gardening tip of the week

Gardening tip of the week

Try to include something in your garden to delight you every month. For example, there are some wonderful perennials with autumn foliage and/or fruit which look just as good as colourful summer flowers. In this way you can look forward to the cooler months of the year rather than dreading them!

Looking brilliant during this month and improving well into November is that lovely small tree/large shrub Amelanchier which has one of the best red and orange leaf firework shows you can imagine! And don’t miss the chance to admire Callicarpa bodinieri var giraldii ‘Profusion’ – otherwise known as ‘beauty berry’. Its name says it all – the unusual violet colour of its berries is remarkable. Also shining a light in autumn are many different Cotoneasters with their bright red berries and the sea buckthorn (Hippophae) with its orange berries. What’s not to love about autumn in the garden?
