Broadcast date: Friday 9th May
Broadcast time: 12:30 pm
In episode four of BOOK BREAK, anchored by author Alexandra Heminsley (Running Like a Girl), we are joined by two debut novelists Robin Black and Juliet West, both of whom were writers in many guises for years before taking the step into novel writing. They will share how they concoct their stories of love, temptation and betrayal…
Robin Black joins us from Philadelphia to celebrate the launch of her first novel, Life Drawing. But before that Robin wrote stories and essays for the world’s most recognised magazines and publications with short stories and essays. Life Drawing is a fierce, honest and moving story about married life- its intimacies, betrayals and secrets set in suburban USA.
Joining Robin is Juliet West who, before her novel Before the Fall, wrote poetry and short stories, one of which won the H E Bates short story prize. Set during the First World War, Before the Fall deals with feelings of duty and temptation and follows protagonist Hannah as her husband leaves her to go to war.
This month we’ll also hear from another debut novelist, Hannah Kent to see what writing rituals she has and how she gets her inspiration flowing and finally Sarah Rayner will be our quick-fire questions target.
