Several months ago, we ran an article about the lack of radio programmes for older listeners. Amongst the many excellent suggestions for programmes that do go out on air came news of a show where every record comes from the 1950s. Rock on! says Jayne Warren.

A beautiful Christmas collection has been released on CD to celebrate Music Director, Richard Jeffrey-Gray’s twenty years years at Clifton Cathedral in Bristol. ‘O Magnum Mysterium’ (Latin for 'O Great Mystery'), which was first recorded by Clifton Cathedral Choir in 1987 and published on cassette, went on to become the sound of Christmas in many homes around the world.

Affordable musical instruments and tuition for older people

The Arts Council has launched a scheme called "Take It Away" which aims to encourage people to take up musical instruments by providing an interest-free loan, thereby making the instruments and lessons more affordable - and they are especially keen to reach older people.

'Active Music, Active Minds' is a new programme by Live Music Now (LMN) to bring the benefits of live music to thousands of older people, including those suffering with dementia. It will also gather important evidence on the impact of live music on the elderly.
