The 10(New) Commandments – For the Age of Technology
- Thou shalt not turn off thy mobile phone, thus being available at ALL times: at work, at home, in the garden, in the bathroom, in bed – even on holiday!
- Thou must have a convincing excuse when meeting someone who complains – “You had your mobile switched off – I couldn’t reach you!”
- Thou must talk/shout loudly – in the street, on the bus, on the train, in a restaurant, even in the theatre, when conducting a phone call in public.
- Thou must not admit, in public, not really understanding the difference between an i-pad and an i-pod.
- Thou must send and/or receive 100 emails a day to have any street cred.
- Thou must join Facebook and/or Twitter – and start to make many new ‘friends’.
- Thou must be prepared to blur the edges between reality and ‘virtual reality’.
- Thou must immediately install a sat- nav in the car – after all, a map, a compass, (and ‘O’ level geography?) couldn’t possibly get you from A to B (or you could always wind down (sorry – ‘lower’) the window and ASK someone!)
- Thou must throw out the old-fashioned (reliable) portable radio for a digital one – even though the latter has a far worse signal and costs twice as much!
- Thou must, when bored, lonely, depressed or broke, embark on a shopping spree (now called ‘Retail Therapy’) to max out the credit card, on things you don’t (really) want, don’t need and can’t afford anyway!
