'Sutra' - Martial arts with a difference
By Robert Tanitch - 01/07/2009
Martial arts with a difference: the famed Shaolin monks, choreographed by Sidi Larby Charkaoiui, find an endless variety of things to do with Anthony Gormley’s 21 coffin-shaped boxes, perpetually altering their purposes; and at one point even converting them into flowering petals.
The Buddhist monks, physically, mentally and spiritually alert, dazzle with their warrior-like technique and quick changes. The performance constantly surprises and delights with its invention, vitality and humour.
Sutra appears at Sadler's Wells, Rosebery Avenue, London EC1R until 11th July 2009 .
