What would YOUR fantasy cabinet be?
By Tony Watts - Editor - 19/06/2009
Assuming that this article is legible, and not covered by large sections of black ink, I’d like to ask you a question: who would be in your fantasy cabinet?
Every football fan has enjoyed putting together his (possibly even her) ‘best ever England’ side; the same goes for cricketing aficionados. Now, with politics on the cusp of possibly irrevocable change, we should be focusing our thoughts on the team to lead us from 2010.
We have every hope that well known people will stand as independents for the next election; equally, the chances of a hung parliament are probably greater than they’ve ever been. It’s time to plan.
One MT reader, Matthew Edwards, is already on the road. He is proposing Terry Waite for Minister for Pensions, and putting Joanna Lumley in charge of immigration. You can read more of his thoughts on http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=93744980741
Alan Sugar is already in place in the Lords and could easily take over from Lord Mandelson at Trade & Industry, with particular responsibility for the Apprenticeships scheme. No contest there.
But is it Jamie, Delia or the combustible Gordon Ramsey to head up a new Ministry for Food? Tough call that. Jeremy Paxman, after years of sorting out the wheat from the chaff on University Challenge, is a shoo-in as Minister of Education. And as for Transport... no contest. It’s Murray Walker taking the chequered flag.
But that’s enough from me… We need your suggestions. Email editorial@maturetimes.co.uk with YOUR ideas.
