A great opportunity to get back into learning

free, Fircroft College of Adult Education in Selly Oak, Birmingham will be running a ten week long residential programme aimed exclusively at more mature learners wanting to get back into learning.

Starting in September, the ‘Ransackers’ programme offers over 55s who have not previously studied in higher education a fantastic opportunity to choose a subject of interest to research and study in detail, before submitting  a written account of their work. Lots of support is given throughout the course in areas such as: studying texts, undertaking research, using computers and the Internet, essay writing and presentation skills. Learners come from all over the country, from all backgrounds and walks of life. There are no formal entry requirements.

Many learners start the course with some trepidation and uncertainty, often after having been out of education for many years. However, they all finish the course having acquired fresh skills, added confidence and new friendships. Many describe it as a ‘life changing experience. – and what’s more it’s completely free of charge, including accommodation, meals, tuition and teaching resources.

Fircroft College of Adult Education is located in a former Cadbury family home, a beautiful Edwardian building set in six acres of peaceful gardens away from the hustle and bustle, yet just four miles from Birmingham city centre.
