The Alan Titchmarsh Show and RHS launch search for ‘The People’s Gardener’

ITV1’s The Alan Titchmarsh Show has teamed up with the Royal Horticultural Society’s Britain in Bloom to launch the search for ‘The People’s Gardener’.

The competition to find the country’s most passionate community gardeners will launch on Monday 19 January.  Every fortnight The Alan Titchmarsh Show will profile four candidates for the title and a spectacular prize, which includes the chance to present a gardening slot on The Alan Titchmarsh Show’s autumn series.

The prize will reward both the winner and their local community.  The People’s Gardener will take home £10,000 in National Garden Gift Vouchers to spend on their community gardening projects .  A top gardener from the RHS, the leading gardening charity, will also visit to assist with the winner’s projects.  The winner will receive life membership of the RHS, a VIP trip to the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, spending time there with Alan, and attend the RHS’ National Britain in Bloom Awards as a guest of honour.  The People’s Gardener will also become an informal ambassador for the RHS, helping the charity to promote the power of gardening to transform communities.

The judges – TV gardener Charlie Dimmock, Roger Burnett, Chair of Britain in Bloom judges and Annie Sweetbaum, talent agent to stars including many of our best known gardening personalities, will shortlist a heat winner each fortnight who will go through to the grand final.

Alan Titchmarsh said, ‘We’ve had competitions for everything from pop star idols to variety acts.  This competition is for something close to my heart – to find someone who has dramatically changed their local environment through gardening.’

Entry is open to anyone whose passion for gardening benefits their community in some way.  To enter yourself, or nominate someone you know, send a short letter explaining why the individual deserves to be ‘The People’s Gardener’ with photographs showing what they have achieved, to:
