Something for everyone at Gwel an Mor

Set overlooking the bay of Portreath in Cornwall, Gwel an Mor (meaning ‘view of the sea’) is a holiday village which lives up to its name; the vista is an ever-changing myriad of colours as the sea changes mood throughout the day.
When we went to stay for a long weekend we were warmly greeted by Jenny who showed us around the site to explain all there was to offer during our stay – which was plenty! A swim in the indoor pool, jacuzzi, a sauna, a steam room, a relaxing massage in the health and beauty salon, a full beauty treatment and all that could be followed by a tasty meal in the Terrace Restaurant. In addition to which, we stayed in one of their luxury wooden lodges, that have been carefully designed to blend in with the natural setting.
On Saturday we were invited for a nature walk in the local fields and surrounding countryside with our highly knowledgeable guide Gary. He introduced us to his ‘friends’ Martha and Matilda, the pigs, Chunk, the eagle owl, Snowy the barn owl, Dude the Heron and the playful, young, tame fox Todd.
During our walk Gary taught us how to identify bird song and different types of tree, the tracks of animals, all of which were just part of the nature trail. It was absolutely captivating - even for our two teenagers! And they especially enjoyed the opportunity to fly the birds of prey.
In the evening we dined in the restaurant, which has a relaxed bistro style atmosphere with a Mediterranean inspired menu with a wide range of excellent fresh fish dishes.
On Sunday we travelled a short distance to St Ives to visit the Tate Gallery, while the younger elements of the party preferred viewing the surfers on the beach. Then down to Land’s End, where we watched in awed silence as the waves of the Atlantic crashed against the obdurate granite cliffs.
The following day we took the opportunity to have a tour with Hannah, the site manager, of the new assisted living lodges. They really have thought of everything to make this a perfect holiday choice for any guests with reduced mobility who may want to come on holiday with their family, friends or carers.
This is a resort for all seasons, offering an excellent standard of accommodation, plenty of activities for all ages on and off the resort and best of all a genuine, warm welcome with excellent customer service.
