Book your places now for the U3A AGM
18/08/2008
This year the University of the Third Age (U3A) will celebrate the diversity and inclusiveness of the U3A movement at its AGM and National Conference, to be held at Swansea University Campus on 6th - 9th September 2008. Organized by National U3A who will arrange the speakers and formal sessions, delegates from around the UK will be given a warm Welsh welcome and an excellent entertainment programme.
U3A's popular annual event will give members the chance to meet each other and address some specific questions about promoting the well- being of older people over and above education - which has been central to the movement since its beginning. For example, social and recreational activities such as "walking" have been considered
justified because it is assumed they will lead to 'real' learning.
But if some U3As are becoming solely social and welfare clubs, how do they justify their membership as a U3A?
Other topics for discussion will include: how to actively encourage more inclusiveness of other cultures; changing work patterns of both younger and older people; whether the U3A should change to be the ‘University of Free Time', thereby encouraging the unemployed or partially employed to join - whatever their age?
Prices will vary according to accommodation required and number of days days attended. To find out more go to the website linked below or call Pat Herbert, Membership Secretary, on 01792 405920.
