Relish the best of British watercolour painting

 The short-listed artists have been selected for this year’s RWS/Sunday Times Watercolour Competition. Seven artists out of 1,500 who entered the competition have been short-listed for this coveted prize.

This year has seen a new prize, Penguin Classics Prize for Cover Art it is the chance to win a commission to create the cover art for a Penguin Classics book.

 

The RWS/Sunday Times Watercolour Competition is one of the longest running open art competitions in the UK today, and remains the largest art prize dedicated to the medium of watercolour. For twenty-one years, this exhibition has provided a  forum for exemplary painters to demonstrate their skills in the technically challenging field of watercolour.

 

This year’s panel of six judges includes Richard Sorrell, President of the RWS and Penny Johnson, Director of the Government Art Collection. With over 1,200 entries received from leading artists across the UK, an exhibition of 86 works by 80 artists has been selected. All works are originals and most are for sale. Prices start at £300 and go up to £10,000.
