Win tickets for the Goodwood Revival Festival 2008

“Glorious Goodwood” is again set to reverberate to the sounds of motor racing’s past over the weekend of September 19 – 21.

The Goodwood Revival is celebrating its tenth anniversary and remains at the pinnacle of international historic motor racing.  This ticket-only event will again deliver the old motoring adage, “the right crowd and no crowding”.

What’s more, it’s the only meeting of its kind to be staged entirely in the romantic time capsule of the 1950s and 1960s.  Centred around Goodwood’s legendary motor racing circuit, untouched by modernisation and staged to look almost exactly as it did when it held Britain’s first post-War motor race in 1948, the Goodwood Revival is a unique, theatrical experience.

Those new to this event are often overwhelmed by the atmosphere and decor. Guests are encouraged to dress up in period - circa 1950s / 1960s clothing, with many turning up in military uniforms as well as traditional tweed jackets and caps. You'll find youself transported back to this “golden age” of motor racing.

Each year these efforts become more intense for both the organisers and spectators.  Ladies day last year proved very popular, as did the  “Catch Me If You Can” style airline pilot flanked by four pretty stewardesses: examples of the organisers going that extra mile to create the fabled ‘film set’ feel of the event.

Races with evocative names such as the Whitsun Trophy for sport prototypes, the very popular St Mary’s Trophy for period Tin Top road racers and the Royal Automobile Club TT Celebration, with its grid said to be worth in excess of £30 million, have spectators on their feet cheering on motor racing legends of yesteryear doing battle with the stars of today, all of whom queue up for the privilege of racing at Goodwood.

A relaxed paddock feel allows for close interaction with drivers and machinery alike. Nowhere else in the world can you stroll along lines of ‘Works’ Aston Martins, then turn to hear a priceless Ferrari erupt into life for a pre-race warm up before glancing over at a line of legendary Jaguar C and D-Types cruising past to take part in their next race.

Not just for cars, this weekend of nostalgia also pays homage to motorcycle racing of yesteryear with the late Barry Sheene, until recently a favourite competitor at the event, lending his name to the two wheeled races, with their breathtaking handlebar to handlebar racing proving to be a real crowd pleaser.

In an event where everyone is involved in creating a special atmosphere, turning up in a classic car is becoming ever more popular with a special pre-1966 car park allowing you to display your own metal and perhaps enjoy a very traditional picnic.

A true nostalgic event celebrating 60 years of motorsport history at the West Sussex circuit, the 2008 Goodwood Revival is an unrivaled chance to see the greatest cars and motorcycles in their natural habitat and soak up the unique atmosphere of yesteryear.
