Access our heritage at the click of a button

Forget dusty archive rooms and dark library basements, English Heritage is bringing history bang up to date and direct to homes with the launch of "EHTV" – a new online service, offering an alternative way to watch and relive history at a click of a mouse.
Hosted on the link below, EHTV offers accurate information on the past and a chance to ‘access all areas’ of English Heritage on demand, 24 hours a day. Users will find content to suit all tastes, from a serious look at conservation to tongue-in-cheek ‘How To’ guides offering tips on how to lay siege to a medieval castle, catch a rat the 13th century way or diagnose a 15th century illness.
Dan Wolfe, English Heritage’s marketing director, said: “EHTV is the ultimate history resource. It is for anyone who’s ever wanted to witness some of England’s greatest moments in history, go behind the scenes of the country’s most treasured properties, or wondered what goes on at conservation sites.
“We’ve teamed up with the History Channel along with a host of English Heritage experts, re-enactors and well-known names, including Dan Snow and Bill Bailey, to put together a collection of original programmes, presenting reliable and accurate historical content in a format that can be accessed by anyone, anywhere. Whether you’re a history buff or beginner, young child or grandparent, we want EHTV to entertain, educate and most of all, share our expertise and excitement about our heritage with a wider audience.”
EHTV offers video and audio clips which can be downloaded or streamed, and last from under a minute to up to an hour. Users can pause, forward or repeat play as many times as they like.
Content currently available on the site includes:
• Bill Bailey’s Stonehenge
• Battle of Hastings re-enacted
• Dover Castle’s Secret Wartime Tunnel
• Cook like a Roman
• Tell the time in the 9th century
• How to Fire a Bow and Arrow
