We're going to the zoo, zoo, zoo ... carers from North West gather to share experiences
09/06/2008
On Sunday 15 June 2008 from 10am-6pm hundreds of carers and their families from local Crossroads member schemes across the North West are meeting up at Blackpool Zoo for a big, fun day out. The purpose is for as many carers as possible to engage in a single event, enabling them to share their experiences of caring.
Crossroads Caring for Carers is organising The Big North West Crossroads Family Fun Day to capture carers’ stories and to hear their views on what would make a difference to their lives, health and wellbeing.
The event has been arranged to mark Carers Week, 9-15 June 2008 and is designed to encourage carers to recognise the importance of taking a break. Blackpool Zoo is considered an ideal venue because of its excellent facilities and activities.
Carers can arrive at any time throughout the day but in the morning between 10am and 11.30am they will receive a welcoming reception from a poco-locco steel band. They will be joined by local dignitaries and, hopefully, some celebrity faces.
Importantly, there will be the opportunity for carers to speak out on video or write their thoughts on a postcard. These will then be used to influence local and central government and policy makers.
Activities are planned for all the family, ranging from face painting and bouncy castles to a family quiz.
There will be information stalls and people to speak to for advice and information at the Crossroads stand based at the crossroads meeting point in the Zoo grounds.
After 12 noon carers will be free to enjoy the Zoo, taking part in
activities from demonstrations, talks and feeding the animals.
Carers are being asked to bring a picnic for lunch and everyone will join together for this.
