Have YOUR say in two public consultations affecting older care

Having been a casualty of the loopholes in the Care Standards Act 2000 when my late mother was living out her days in a care home, I would strongly urge Mature Times' readers to make sure their voices are heard on matters concerning future care standards in the UK.

Currently there are three public consultations open to all via the internet:
1. "Private and voluntary healthcare: Care Standards Act 2000". Closing date: 10th June 2008

The Department plans to make major changes to the way that health and adult social care is regulated, and performance managed, from a currently planned date of April 2009. This consultation document contains the proposed changes to the regulations governing the independent healthcare, and contains the proposed changes to the regulations governing the independent healthcare sector, and proposed changes to the associated National Minimum Standards (NMS). 2. "The future regulation of health and adult social care in England" Closing date: June 17th 2008

This is a consultation on the next stage in the development of the future regulation system for health and adult social care. In particular, the consultation is about the development of registration requirements and the scope of registration. Click on the second link.

3. "Competencies for recognising and responding to acutely ill patients in hospital" Closing date: 17th June 2008

This consultation document sets out a framework of competencies for recognising and responding to acutely ill patients in hospital. Comments are invited on the document content and framework of competencies. Click on the link third below.

Please try and submit your feedback before the closing dates.
