Join the Golden-Oldies for a sing-song!
19/05/2008
If you have been wondering what goes on at a Golden-Oldies singing session then now is your chance to find out.
Starting on Wednesday 28th May at the Bath Pavilion from 10.30 – 11.30am, and every last Wednesday in the month, Goldies founder Grenville Jones will be taking a regular fun singing session and everyone is welcome to attend.
Golden-Oldies only launched three short months ago with a pilot scheme in Bath & North East Somerset Council. Working with Somer Community Housing, the original 6 daytime weekly sessions at Somer Sheltered Housing rooms have already doubled with new sessions at Midsomer Norton, Combe Down and Weston, as well as singing sessions at care homes in and around Bath.
Goldies is also taking off outside of the Bath area with a weekly session at the Withywood Community Centre, sponsored by Bristol City Council and the Hucclecote Community Centre, Gloucester.
The Goldies office has had calls from across the UK including Hampshire, Kent, Norfolk, The West Midlands and Wales. TV crews from Germany and Canada have travelled to Bath to film a Goldies session.
“Following a feature on Golden-Oldies on the BBC National news," says Grenville, "we really have been inundated with requests for our Goldie sessions. By the end of 2008 I estimate that we will be running across Swindon, Bristol as well as the counties of South Gloucestershire, North Somerset and Somerset County.
“I think there will be at least 70 sessions a week by the time we reach Christmas this year. That’s providing I can find the talented musicians who can lead the singing sessions.”
The Bath Pavilion sing-a-long is open to everyone but unlike other Goldie sessions, this one has a £3 per head charge to cover a cup of tea or coffee on arrival and room hire.
Goldies in Bath & North East Somerset is keen to hear from people with some spare time during the day to help drive the minibuses, which the Bath Community Transport can provide.
