YOUR chance to thank good neighbours

National charity Counsel and Care has launched a nationwide "Good Neighbour Competition" to search for caring, compassionate individuals who help family, friends and neighbours when they need support. This year’s awards are being presented in honour of Rose Hacker, Counsel and Care’s oldest supporter, who died in February 2008, aged 101.

The charity is seeking nominations for people who regularly visit a housebound older neighbour, young people who give care and support to frail older neighbours, and older people themselves who care for their neighbour’s children, or other older people.

Stephen Burke, Chief Executive, said: “Counsel and Care is delighted to announce the inaugural Rose Hacker Awards 2008. As a true champion who did so much for her local community, Rose is an example to us all of what being a good neighbour means. Many of us live in transient city neighbourhoods or rural areas, where we often do not know or speak to those who live closest to us.

“This competition aims to show that there are people of all ages who are willing to take time out to help each other. The Good Neighbours Awards aim to celebrate these special people and the communities they help to strengthen”.

Good Neighbour Competition entry forms can be downloaded from the charity's website at the website linked below. Winners will be chosen from three categories: The Young Good Neighbour Award (under 18), The Good Neighbour Award (18-64, and The Older Good Neighbour Award (65 and over).
