A whole week to be houseproud!
09/04/2008
For many older and disabled people, a major priority is leading an independent life in their own home, for as long as possible. However, much needed repair work on an ageing property or adaptations can be costly. Houseproud Week, running from the 14th – 20th April aims to highlight how Houseproud, in partnership with local authorities, can help homeowners find the right, practical help or funding options to repair, improve or adapt their home.
Home Improvement Trust Chief Executive Martin Rudge, (OBE) says: “With the credit crunch and the increasing number of people struggling to meet the rising cost of fuel bills, for some homeowners, equity release is an increasingly important means of improving their living conditions. We are therefore especially pleased to be able to use Houseproud Week to publicise the unique service we offer.
“The Home Improvement Trust, under the Houseproud scheme, offers a range of solutions which help homeowners carry out essential household repairs and maintenance work. This can include helping homeowners find reliable contractors, identifying possible available grants, checking work upon its completion, and offering small scale no-risk equity release packages to help finance work”.
As part of its service, Houseproud provides access to loans that are designed to meet the needs of older and disabled homeowners, with the categorical guarantee of no repossession.
Three loans are offered through the scheme; a no Service loan, an interest only loan and a capital and interest repayment loan. The service is delivered locally, with case workers from the local authority or local Home Improvement Agency providing a single and consistent point of contact for clients.
The range of work possible under the scheme include adaptations to make life easier for an older or disabled person – this can be anything from a new walk in shower to a new roof – or the installation of a stairlift, replacing doors, windows and improving energy efficiency and home security.
The Home Improvement Trust works with local authorities in both urban and rural areas across EnglandEngland, ScotlandScotland and WalesWales offering the unique Houseproud service on a national basis.
Houseproud Week also marks the launch of the Home Improvement Trust’s new DVD. The short film helps to demonstrate how Houseproud has helped to change the lives of older and disabled homeowners.
