The Kemble Military Show 2008

One of the largest military shows in the UK will take place at Kemble airfield, near Cirencester, on Friday 27, Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 June 2008. The three days will be packed with exhibits and special events for all the family - all with a military theme.

There will be breathtaking displays of military armour in the live arena
together with authentically loud and dramatic re-enactments of battles. Last
year, the aircraft of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight was one of the
highlights of the show and, in what is the 90th anniversary year of the RAF, it returns for 2008 with a Dakota fly-past on Saturday 28 June. On each of the three days, there will be a small air display of military aircraft.

On the ground, more than 800 military and classic vehicles will be displayed - armoured vehicles, Jeeps, classic cars and motorcycles. Members of the Military Vehicle Trust (MVT), which will celebrate its 40th anniversary at the Kemble Military Show 2008, will own many of these vehicles. A registered charity and the oldest military vehicle club in the world, MVT members have vehicles from pre-First World War to the present day, from bicycles to tanks and from just about every manufacturing country in the world. Some members spend years researching and restoring their vehicle whilst others are content just to buy and run a restored vehicle. All are proud of the standard of their vehicles, which is reflected in the frequent requests for vehicles for film and TV work.

So that visitors can see what life was like in wartime, there will a First World
War field kitchen in operation and demonstrations of cooking wartime recipes. There will also be 1930s dancing in period costumes by Gloster Jive and Swing - whose founders, Gary and Sara Boon are the UK's Lindy Hop champions. Many army regiments and wartime veterans, including Chelsea Pensioners, will be at the Kemble Military Show 2008 together with military bands.

Finally, for the bargain hunter and collector of militaria, there will be many
trade stands to browse.

John Keedwell, director of the Kemble Military Show 2008, says: "Each year, we make the show bigger and better and for 2008 we've surpassed ourselves. Kemble is definitely the best military show in the south-west and now one of the largest in the country."
