Fruitful offering from Lizz Wright

The third album from the New York based singer-songwriter Lizz Wright is a mix of self-penned numbers and her own interpretations of classic songs.

Her own composition ‘Coming Home’ (co –written with Toshi Reagon)  shows her off her voice to its true potential as well as allowing her to include her gospel roots. Even though Wright is gospel-trained, she isn’t scared to take on some challenging standards such as ‘I Idolize You’ (by Ike and Tina Turner) and ‘Thank you’ (by Led Zeppelin). Wright gives her own twist to each song truly making them her own.

Although Wright is usually based in New York she will be coming to London’s Soho to perform live at Revue Bar on the 20th and 21st of April. In addition to her London dates Wright will also be performing at the glee club in Birmingham on the 22nd of April.

A diverse and diverting blend contemporary mix of jazz and gospel music, The Orchard is a unique and creative album from a talent that is well worth listening to.
