Rewind for Donny - “From Donny with Love”
By Carys Davies - 28/02/2008
There’s a whole generation of people out there for whom Donny Osmond was essential listening, as well as essential covering for their bedroom walls. Now aged 50, he has re-recorded some of his biggest hits as well as a selection of new treatments of classic songs.
Originally recorded in the seventies Donny re-introduces his much loved standard ‘Puppy love’ for this album. Which, given the song’s subject matter, and the fact that Donny himself is now middle – aged, is really quite bizarre listening. This new recording of his childhood hit is accompanied by a selection of new versions of ‘How deep is your love’, ‘I can see clearly now’ and ‘Right here waiting for you’.
His many fans will love Donny’s recordings of these classic pop songs, and a particularly good listen is the album’s bonus track - ‘Never gonna say goodbye’, recorded live at Edinburgh Castle in 2004. Look out Scotland, because Donny will be returning to the country in May for the Osmond’s 50th Anniversary tour.
In fact the three best known of the Osmond tribe - Donny, Marie and Jimmy - will be performing in Glasgow at the SECC. It’s clear that Donny remains passionate about his music and he delivers each of his album songs with an easy, accomplished technique. If you loved Donny then, you will almost certainly love him now.
