Has your dog got the waggiest tail?
21/02/2008
The Kennel Club may be primarily known for its pedigree expertise and the world’s largest dog show, Crufts, but did you know that they also offer a club for dogs of all backgrounds?
The Companion Dog Club (CDC), which was set up in 2001, offers dog lovers the opportunity to register their pets with the Kennel Club, whether they are pedigree or crossbred. The Companion Dog Club welcomes all dogs, and is a great way to be involved with the Kennel Club and take part in competitions where good looks and a waggy tail are the key qualities required.
There is a real camaraderie amongst CDC members, and being a part of this Club ensures you not only get to show off your prize pet, but you get to be part of a social network of like-minded people.
Companion Dog Shows are held all year round throughout the UK and offer visitors a great day out, with various classes championing our four-legged friends. The most prestigious of these is coming later in the year so why not register your dog with the Companion Dog Club, go along and compete?
Discover Dogs is London’s leading dog event and takes place on November 8th and 9th at Earls Court. The event is a celebration of dogs and dog ownership, so it’s not surprising that the Companion Dog Club is a key feature of the show programme. Members can compete in a range of different classes and enjoy their rightful share of the limelight at this fantastic event, as well as having the opportunity to win some great prizes.
Amongst the fun competition classes you can enter are Prettiest Bitch, Most Handsome Dog, Best OAP (Dog!) and Best Rescue, for the canine companion who has had the happiest re-homing experience. The judges will look at the relationship between dog and owner, plus the dog’s general behaviour and condition. Other classes include the likes of Waggiest Tail, and Best Double Act, for the best owner and dog in a fancy dress duo.
By joining the CDC you’ll receive regular news and special offers from the Kennel Club, plus you’ll have the opportunity to enter fantastic competitions and get to know fellow dog lovers in your area at local shows. It only costs £12 to register a dog for ten years.
