The following websites provide helpful information on places to visit and events at British coastal locations: take a look to find the best of British! 

•  www.visitbritain.com:  The British Tourist Authority’s official site suggests  attractions and events.  The site also includes contact details for all Tourist  Information Centres which you can call for more detailed information on  resorts and accommodation.  

 •  www.nationaltrust.org.uk:  The National Trust’s website gives advice on  things to do as well as information on holiday cottages to rent, short  breaks and escorted tours of Britain.   

•  www.tour-britain.com:  The Tour Britain website gives details of the top  places to visit and tours and excursions to go on. It has a useful resource  section, which includes a fact-file on Britain and travel and transport  information.     

The best beaches  

•  www.seasideawards.org.uk:  The environmental charity, ENCAMS has awards for the best beaches around the UK.  Visit for a list of the 317 quality beaches that won awards in 2003. The distinctive yellow and blue flag award is only given to beaches that are very clean, safe, well managed and have water quality that meets European legislation.   

•  www.goodbeachguide.co.uk:  The Marine Conservation Society also  publishes The Good Beach Guide, which lists the British beaches that  have met the highest water quality standards. It is updated every year.  Call the MCS on 01989 566017 for more information. 

•  www.visitbritain.com:  For details about specific beaches, such as which  are stony or sandy or which have the best access for children or the  disabled, contact the local Tourist Information Centre, whose details are  on this site.  

Where to stay   

•  www.visitbritain.com:  Many Tourist Information Centres offer advice on  availability of accommodation and will book ahead for you. There are over 500 centres across the UK – contact the centre nearest your holiday destination.
