'Getting on a bit' by Sylvia Stilts

Life, like the weather, has its ups and downs.
I have bad days and sad days and glad days
But don’t we all?

Days when I’m happy to potter alone
Days which are endless and dull and I hope
Someone will call.

Yes, I always cook a tasty meal when
Soup and sandwich or a “Dinner for one”
Begin to pall.

Don’t give me a mug or a baby to hold:
My fingers might lose their grip and I would
Let it fall.

I count my blessings and enjoy a laugh
I love life, hobbies and I won’t turn my
Face to the wall.

So next week, at my dear grandson’s wedding
I’ll wear a new dress and let my hair down
And have a ball.
