What is the point in voting?
09/01/2008
Mr Blair and our un-elected Prime Minister have, between them, ruined this country. Through losing control of immigration Mr Brown and New Labour have no idea of how many immigrants, legal or otherwise, are in this country.
The estimated population of Great Britain was around 60 million ten years ago. The population is expected to rise to 70 million by 2020. I suggest we are nearer the 70 million mark already. Their legacy, in years to come, will be that they sowed the seeds to our countries’ religion becoming predominately Islamic. So questions on immigration and deporting undesirables become irrelevant. Brussels and the Human Rights will see to that.
As for the rest of the questions you asked, we will only get what we have already had for the last ten years - and that is vague ‘politician’ answers, spin and headline-grabbing promises that will be forgotten by the time he or she hands in their next expense claim form. Being typical of Labour Brown will blame everybody else and take no responsibility for any shortcomings in his Government.
What is the point in voting - wIll our Community Charge be reduced? I don’t think so! Will taxes go down - or utility bills? And with especial regard to water, and the South West having the highest charges in the country, will pensioners get a reasonable rise? Will criminals get their just desserts?
Over twenty years ago a German student remarked to me that she thought Britain was a third world country. I took the remark to be of German arrogance, but these last ten years have proved her - oh so right!
One thing is for certain. During the next two or three years, MPs will be voting for another rise in wages, golden handshakes and inflation-proof pensions. It seems to me that the only times that politicians are interested in the people is when there’s a war or an election in the offing.
Pessimistically yours,
F Harris, Exmouth
