Get our police back policing!
09/01/2008
I’m now 86 years of age, brought up in this country. In my youth the local policeman knew all the local lads by name and we all had a slap around the ear if we stepped out of line, se we learnt the hard way what was right and what was wrong. I served my country in the Second World War 1940 in Norway - 8th army in Italy i.e. 5 years away from home.
In my opinion the following corrections need to be made in this country. Police need to be back on the streets. To do the stupid amount of paperwork must be corrected.
The Human Rights Act that the Government signed up to must be rescinded, because any individual who creates crime etc seems to be able to escape by quoting the Human Rights Act.
Immigration. We live in such a small country that we are now over populated. Housing, schools, hospitals etc at maximum capacity.
The Government should do everything in its power to keep industry in this country. For example Rolls Royce in Germany!
NHS - speaking for myself, I have had splendid treatment over the years. In my opinion to arrive at clean wards you must bring back Matron – but you must give her the power to hire and fire – forget Human Rights.
The increase of pub opening hours was a grave mistake. This must be rescinded. Drastic action must be taken to make our street safer, at night in particular. People of my age do not go out late at night. This I consider is a national disgrace. In my parents day this was not a problem.
The members of parliament should leave their ivory towers and come and live alongside the general public and witness what is happening in our street. This wonderful country was once the envy of the world – not any more.
