Cats Protection launches Short Story Competition to find the best feline fable

Have you written a funny feline fable? Can you pen a moggy masterpiece? If so, Cats Protection wants your entry for its first ever Short Story Competition.

The charity has launched the search for the nation’s best cat-related short story, and budding writers have until February to come up with their ‘tails’.

Winners will be chosen by best-selling author Robert Rankin and all category winners will have their pieces published in the charity’s The Cat magazine, read by 25,000 people.

Not only that, the overall winner will also receive a Hewlett-Packard laptop worth £350, and the three category winners will each be awarded a beautiful black Parker Sonnet fountain pen worth £105.

Entries must be no longer than 1,000 words and fit into one of the three categories – Comical Cats, Courageous Cats or True Tales.

Rebecca Watson, Editor of The Cat, said: “We hope that cats will provide some great inspiration for budding writers out there. Just like the best stories, cats have many different qualities – they can be mysterious, funny, heart-warming and compelling – and we would love to see entries that reflect those qualities.”

While there is no charge to enter the competition, the charity would welcome a suggested donation of £5 per entry. To find out more and to download an entry form, please visit:
