Have you ever seen anything unusual in our skies?

Retired Detective Constable John Hanson is currently writing his book called "Haunted Skies 1940-1966", which covers numerous reports of strange phenomena - some involving the police - that he and his partner have been investigating over a ten-year period. And he is asking Mature Times' readers to send him any stories of sightings that they have had - especially anyone who has been a pilot.

A constable in the 1960s, Mr Hanson revealed that he hasn't always been so open-minded about the supernatural: “In those days, if someone told me they had seen a UFO, I would have tried to stop laughing and probably recommended some sort of psychiatric treatment.”

But the data that Mr Hanson has collected over the years has made him change his mind. He said: “There was a flood of UFO activity over the British Isles during late October 1967, when numerous sightings were made of what became labelled as the ‘Flying Cross’ UFO. In the end I decided to write my own books based on countless interviews with ex Pilots, Police Officers and people from all walks of life, who had witnessed something inexplicable. I wanted to put the record straight rather than depend on sensationalised, distorted and inaccurate reports found in so many books magazines, and TV.

"I have looked at hundreds of reports over the years and am compiling a chronological diary, which will give a clearer picture and give readers a chance to see how the reports corroborate each other.”

Mr Hanson doesn't have definitive answers when it comes to these supernatural experiences, but does believe that location is extremely important. “It seems that 99% of UFO sightings occur near ancient track ways and sites, which suggests a connection between them. The problem is deciding whether the location's ‘energy’ fuels the UFOs or if the UFOs are utilising the energy given off by the ancient driveways, or ley lines as they are sometimes referred to," he said.

Mr Hanson is looking for anyone who may have encountered strange phenomena, whilst on duty or not. “I would be especially interested to hear from ex-Sergeant Roger Willey or ex-PC Clifford Waycott, who saw an unusual bright white light in the Devon sky back in 1967,” he added.
